There is a two-day examination offered three times per year for paralegals who meet this criteria and want to take the exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, their title can change to Certified Legal Assistant or Certified Paralegal.

The American Alliance Certification Program is run by the AAPL, or the American Alliance of Paralegals. There is no exam needed to achieve certification through them. As long as the educational conditions and 5 years of work experience are met, any paralegal can submit for this certification.

If you want to take the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam or PACE, you need to go through the Nation Federation of Paralegal Association (NFPA). You can become a Registered Paralegal if you are successful in this exam. Additionally, you will need to meet the work and training conditions.
